Festival of Trees officially closed its doors for the 2012 holiday season on December 1st. An annual tradition in downtown Buffalo now for 35 years, this event is supported and organized by our community and is the main holiday fundraiser in support of Women & Children’s Hospital of Buffalo. This year’s proceeds were earmarked for the new Children’s Hospital to be completed in December 2015. The Hospital’s move to the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus and its new design will accomodate advances in medicine by more space for outpatient care, greater opportunity for recruitment of physicians and the ability for employees and visitors to get from one place to another — faster. As Western New York’s premier holiday event, volunteers creatde a glittering display of beautifully decorated trees, wreaths, mantle & window displays, a Boutique filled with holiday home décor and stunning gifts. Also featured will be a Gallery of Miracles, a walkway featuring stories of hospital patients, their artwork and a 10-foot tree adorned with hundreds of ornaments hand-painted by hospital patients. The Festival of Trees has been helping the hospital set the standard in pediatric medical care by donating more than $5 million in support of important programs, facility improvements and groundbreaking technology. In previous years, the Festival of Trees has raised money to help with the purchase a $1.5 million CT Scan, purchased a state-of-the-art Ultrasound Machine for $200,000 for the hospital, funding for $8 million Renovation and Expansion of Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and $5 million Renovation and Expansion for the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit.
